Goodbye Texas Stadium
January 22, 2009
As you may or may not know, I am a HUGE Dallas Cowboys fan. When the Cowboys started in 1960 they played at the Cotton Bowl. My Dad had season tickets for him & my Ma. They used to take me & my brother Randy to the games. Ran & I would sit in the end zone. After they moved to the new, state of the art, Texas Stadium in 1971, my Dad couldn’t afford tickets.
So, back then, if you were 14 years old or older & you wore white pants & a white shirt & you showed up 3 hours before the game, they would let you sell cokes, hot dogs & that sort of stuff while walking up & down the stands. Ran & I went to every game to sell concessions, but we only did it for the first half. After half time we would find some empty seats & watch the rest of the game. We didn’t care about the money, we just wanted to watch our hero’s play. After the games we would walk through the empty stadium picking up programs, souvenir cups or anything Dallas Cowboy related. We also dug it that the Texas Stadium was located in our hometown of Irving, Texas!
Well, this was the last year for the old Texas Stadium. My brother & I went to the final game & it was very sad. Not just for the fact that the Cowboys lost, but the fact that we are getting older & the once, State Of The Art Stadium is now plum wore out. The new stadium will really be cool. It cost over one billion dollars & now it will be the newest, latest, greatest, state of the art stadium in the world. But it will be in Arlington, Texas.
I will miss the old stadium with the hole in the roof. They say that the hole in the roof was so God could watch his favorite team play. For Christmas my wife Susie bought me two seats from the old Texas Stadium. How cool is that! I will proudly put them in my office, in front of my desk. You can bet that when the Cowboys are playing, I’ll be sitting in those seats watching from my office on my big screen TV.
Oh yeah, several months ago, Tony Romo & Jessica Simpson moved into my neighborhood, just around the corner from my house. I have been on a Jessica watch ever since. Well, last week, I was working out at the gym & Jessica came in & got on the Precor machine right next to me. No, I didn’t say anything to her, I was too scared! I guess I was star struck. I had to keep telling myself, “Don’t stare Fairless, you’re staring Fairless, quit it!” I can tell you that she wasn’t wearing any makeup & that she didn’t need any makeup. She is a gorgeous woman!
Anyway, So long to the Texas Stadium, my brother & I will miss the old gal.
