Beware- Crazed Nutria in Irving!
May 22, 2009
Ya know, sometimes I write a little BS in my articles, but this one is true. I was walking my dog through the neighborhood Wednesday morning at 4:30 am. My dog started sniffing around one of the storm drainage things. All of a sudden, something jumped out, making the most god awful noise & it latched on my dog (a Husky), & they started fighting & rolling on the ground. I’m like, WTF?! I started yelling & kicking at the thing trying to get it off my dog. Finally, I kicked it off the dog & then it jumped up on my leg. I fell down on the street, kicking & yelling at the thing & I finally kicked it off me. Then it charged me again & I kicked it square in the head & it ran to the other storm sewer across the street! Holy shit, my heart was beating 90 thousand beats per second. I don’t know who was more scared, me or the dog! I finally figured out it was a Nutria, or as I call them – a River Rat. It was about 18” long & probably weighed 15 lbs. I don’t know why it attacked us, unless it was rabid or most likely trying to protect it’s nest or something. That was one of the craziest things that’s ever happened to me. Can you imagine, 4:30 in the morning, in a nice neighborhood, a long haired hippie, on the ground wrestling with a dog & a river rat! It must have been a heck of a sight. Next time I walk the dog, I’m carrying my 12 gauge! I gonna kill me a river rat!
