Oprah’s Big Secret.
Everyone knows I love Oprah and watch her show every day. Unfortunately her show airs earlier in other parts of the country, so big news gets revealed before I get to watch it.
She reveals on her show today that she has been reunited with her sister who was given up for adoption shortly after birth in 1963. Oprah has been keeping this family secret for months and you can bet I will be watching at 4:00 this afternoon to see it for myself! Fortunately, I am married to the boss and I can go home early!

“Riverdance – The Farewell Tour” is amazing.
My daughter, Liz, and I went to the show at the Verizon Center on Sunday (can you imagine Rick did not want to go?). Their footwork and energy is incredible. Not to mention the fact that although our seats were in the second row, there was no one seated in front of me. You could see everything!
These furiously tapping feet are never more spectacular than when all the dancers are stretched across the stage in a chorus line that would put the Rockettes to shame. The two stars were Craig Ashurst, who is from Australia, and Caterina Coyne, who is from London.
There is one very important thing I learned from Riverdance . . . if you are under the age of 65, never go to a matinee performance. I got into a confrontation with an 80 year old man that kept kicking the back of my chair!

Susan’s Movie Review: True Grit
I must admit I have never seen the original movie with John Wayne. This is a tale about a 14 year girl that wants to avenge her father’s death and hires a drunken U.S. Marshall named Rooster Cogburn to find her father’s killer. A Texas Ranger, “LeBoeuf”, is also looking for him for a murder in Texas. It was slow in some parts, but you sat up to see the end.
The young gal played by Hailee Steinfeld will be one of our up and coming stars. Rooster Gogburn was played by Jeff Bridges. LeBoeuf was played by Matt Damon and the bad guy was played by Josh Brolin. These two had minor parts compared to the first two. The movie was directed by the Coen Brothers. And, my son Louis’ friend was an extra in the hanging scene filmed outside of Austin, Texas. On a Rick Sleep Scale, I would give it an 8.5. I had to stay awake and I do not like westerns.
Maybe next week… a chick flick?

Oprah Winfrey’s new television network, OWN, premiered Saturday, January 1st at 11:00 AM CST. You know I love Oprah, so I was tuned in to the former Discovery Health channel on New Year’s Day– that is the new OWN network’s channel.
Let me tell you about some shows. The hilarious Carson Kressley and a gorgeous white woman are on a reality show searching for America’s Next TV Star, Master Class stars Jay-Z along with Diane Sawyer on the first episode, Miracle Detectives features two investigators, one a believer, and the other a scientist, and many more shows.
I just watched my first full show: Miracle Detectives. It was about the Santuario de Chimayo outside of Santa Fe, NM. It is a curious and mystical place that I have been a bunch of times. Two years ago my Mother, Lizbo (my daughter) and I went and my Mother left her purse on the pew. This has turned into a huge tourist attraction. We did our thing and walked around and my Mother noticed she did not have her purse. We went back into the church and it was still there.
How did Oprah have this on her first day? If you ever go to Santa Fe, you must visit this church.

Susan’s Movie Review: The Fighter
The Fighter is a true story about “Irish” Micky Ward and his trainer brother Dick Eklund who grew up on the tough streets of Lowell, Mass. Although this is a movie that appears to be about boxing, it is really a movie about relationships and family struggles. And, yes Mark Wahlberg aka Marky Mark is very handsome and shirtless quite a bit!
This movie has been Golden Globe nominated for everything:
Best Picture, Best Actor (Mark Wahlberg), Best Supporting Actor (Christian Bale), 2 Best Supporting Actresses (Amy Adams and Melissa Leo) and Best Director. The Golden Globes are the prelude for the Oscars.
On the Rick sleep scale, this is a 10+ – he never fell asleep . . . well maybe during the previews of upcoming movies!

The Tourist starring Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp is a thriller that will leave you guessing until the last second. Johnny Depp plays an American tourist and Angelina Jolie plays an extraordinary woman that intentionally crosses his path and the whirlwind of intrigue and danger begins.
The movie has spectacular views set in Italy, along with Angelina in the most amazing outfits and Johnny Depp just has that bad boy look going on – I guess I am drawn to that since I am married to a long haired hippie!
The movie has been nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Picture in a Comedy or Musical – not sure what that is all about since it is a definite thriller! Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp have also received Golden Globe nominations for Best Actress and Best Actor.
On a Rick falling asleep scale, this rates a 9 ½ – he only slept through part of the beginning!
